Visiting Ko

Thad blinked at the sight of the women in front of him, when Ko finally swung the door open. Her hair was an unruly mess, and…were those her night cloths? Perhaps he had woken her? For some reason he almost felt wrong seeing his friend in this state.

It was ridiculous, he knew, but he couldn’t help averting his eyes slightly anyway. He nodded his greeting before taking her up on the offer to come in. When asked if he would like orange juice, he shook his head before noticing the look of the room. It was almost barren. All the boxes that had once taken up the living space had clearly been unpacked yet, where were their contents?

“Um,” looking back to her for a moment, brow perked, his expression was etched with concern “What happened to your living room? Where have all your things gone?”

It was a valid question. “Oh…they are around.” She waved her hand vaguely, in the direction of her bedroom. “It was mostly just computer stuff and books. And my movies. Which reminds me, I should probably get another bookcase…”

That explanation didn’t really sooth away his concerns, as he looked in the direction of the room she’d vaguely waved at. If this room was so very baron, he didn’t even want to think of the condition of her bedroom, with most of her positions stuffed in there.

“…Perhaps I could build you a book case, if you would like.” He offered, almost offhandedly as he continued to look in the direction of her room.

Having to wrench his attention from the possible horrors of a mess that likely lay beyond that door, he still couldn’t bring himself to look directly at his friend. Instead curiously looking over the wall, as if considering where a new book case would fit. “So…how have you been? Apology’s for not having come by sooner.”

“Oh, you know. I have been fairly busy with…things.” She was going for ‘bright and cheerful’, but her voice and expression read more along the lines of half-deranged. Ko hadn’t been sleeping well, and had been living on a diet of eggs, cereal, and milk for the better part of a month. If it wasn’t for the fact that she never forgot to shower or brush her hair, the young woman would seem more primal than civilized. “Funny enough, I think this is the first time I have talked to someone face to face in…days.” Technically the truth. She’d gone to the grocery nine days ago, and she had responded to the cashier’s question of “cash or credit”.

It was a valid question. “Oh…they are around.” She waved her hand vaguely, in the direction of her bedroom. “It was mostly just computer stuff and books. And my movies. Which reminds me, I should probably get another bookcase…”

Thad waited, for a few moments, before lightly knocking again. A twinge of fear began to settle in his mind. Ko wasn't one for going out, even before she had started showing signs of being afraid to do so. He knew there was likely a perfectly logical explanation for the delay, but paranoia still liked to whisper that something awful might have happened to her in his long absence.

Ko swung the door open, and stared. “Oh. Oh! It is you.” She looked out into the hallway, still expecting Girl Scouts. “My brain had me convinced that there would be cookies. I do not know why. Well! Come on in.”

She stood aside, revealing an almost depressingly bare apartment. Everything of importance, from the DVDs on their shelves to the books on the coffee table, had wound up in her room at one point or another, and Ko simply didn’t care enough to remove them. “Would you like some orange juice?”

Coming back to Ko's without bringing Bart and Iris as he had promised felt slightly disheartening, like he had let her down, but it had been so long since the last time he had seen his friend. So despite feeling wrong about it, he knocked on her door.

There’s something about being alone in one’s apartment for weeks at a time that tends to make a person…slip, a bit. Ko still bathed, and kept herself fed, but her hair was a nest of tangles, and she’d been wearing the same tank top and sleep pants for several days now. Working from home was truly doing her wonders, she felt. No one coming into her office to annoy her, no pesky scientists trying to level her building, just peace and quiet.

And then she heard the knock on the door.

Now, it could be anyone. That was the terrifying thing. It could be literally anyone in the world. It could be Girl Scouts selling cookies, or the Joker with a gun. Anyone. She waited a moment, then sighed and shuffled out of her room.

“I really hope they have those coconut ones…”

The pure fact that this doesn’t even need a title or a description or anything speaks volumes. I mean look at the number of notes this has. There are so few people who don’t recognize it. And the song itself just gives you chills. It’s so magical.

this makes me cry.

i cry everytime

At first I thought “Hmm… what’s this? I hope it’s not a troll post…”

Then it started.

And I saw it…

And I remembered the very last scene…

And I shattered.
